Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about membership, qualifications or benefits? Below is a compilation of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answer to these questions.
What are the qualifications for Industrial Electronics Society membership?  What are the qualifications for joining the IEEE?

Because of the different levels of membership offered by the IEEE it is better to call them direct using the toll free number (1-800-678-4333).

What are the benefits of joining the Industrial Electronics Society?

Members may join the Industrial Electronics Society by itself, or in conjunction with joining the IEEE. IEEE membership benefits include subscriptions to IEEE Spectrum and The Institute, as well as access to IEEE technical and educational activities and personal, financial, and insurance programs.

What are the advantages of adding IEEE membership?

For further information contact the IEEE 1-800-678-4333

I want to join the IEEE and/or the Industrial Electronics Society but I do not know anyone who is an IEEE member as an endorser.

If no IEEE member is known you can provide two references familiar with your education or professional experience in order to join the IEEE. If joining just the Industrial Electronics Society the individual need not be an IEEE member. You can provide the name of someone who knows you professionally (e.g., a colleague or a manager.)

Do I sign up for a full year or half year?

Membership is annualized. During the period September 1 - February 28 only full year applications are accepted. The membership and subscriptions would run from January to December. Back issues are sent for those members who apply for full year during January and February.

During the period March 1 to August 31 half year memberships are accepted. The membership and subscriptions begin with the July issue and end in December. Back issues are sent for anyone joining in July and August.

I want a subscription to one of your periodicals but I don't want to be a member of the Industrial Electronics Society.

If you are a member of any profesional, technical organization, a sister society subscription plan is available. You can also subscribe under this plan if you work for a technical organization.

What are the library subscription prices and why the difference from individual in pricing?

Library rates are typically and traditionally much higher than individual rates for all periodicals. A library is providing a subscription for many readers as opposed to one.

What are the qualifications for student membership?

Student membership in the Industrial Electronics Society also requires an IEEE student membership. To qualify for student level membership you must:

I am a full time student and I want to join just the Industrial Electronics Society.

It is a requirement of the IEEE that students join both the IEEE and Industrial Electronics Society.

What are the requirements for a student endorsement?

You need to obtain the signature of the IEEE Advisor or Counselor or a faculty member who is also an IEEE member.

I want to sign up over the phone.
