IES ABB TCFA Award for Prof. Proth  

proth Prof. Jean-Marie Proth, former Director of INRIA-Lorraine,  and a Professor at the University of Nancy, France, and the University of Maryland at College Park, USA, receives  the 2011 ABB Lifetime Contribution to Factory Automation Award.  The Award, established by the IES Technical Committee on Factory Automation and ABB Corporate Research, is presented to individuals in grateful recognition of their lifetime contribution to the factory and industrial automation field; for meritorious technical contribution and technical leadership. The Award presentation ceremony took place at the 16th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation in Toulouse, France, on September 7, 2011.  The award was presented by Stefan Svensson, World-Wide Manager for the Industrial Communication Program, ABB Corporate Research, Sweden.  Further details

The Industrial Electronics Society Expresses Concern for Japan Disaster Victims

The Industrial Electronics Society expresses its deep concern and sympathies for everyone affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and especially for our members, their families, friends, and colleagues. For many years, the contribution of our Japanese volunteers to the Industrial Electronics Society has been very important, and it ranged from conference organizers,  transactions EICs, AdCom members, Technical committee chairs, Officers and IES presidents. It has been a great relief to all of to have been from from the very beginning of this disastrous events in contact with our Japanese colleagues that used the Internet to kindly inform us that they and their families had not major problems. Society is now 60 years old

IES 60th anniversary logoOn February 21st, 1951, the first meeting of the IRE industrial Electronics Group was held. IRE was one of the predecessor societies of IEEE. This was the birth of what it is today known as the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society. See the complete history of IES.

Society loses a dear colleague and friend

Timothy N. Chang, NJIT Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and coordinator of the Intelligent Systems Area, passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 1, 2011 at the age of fifty-two. Society loses a Celebrated Professional

Jim Hung, as he is known to all of his many colleagues and friends throughout the world, peacefully passed away at his home in Knoxville Tennessee, USA on December 27, 2010. He was born in Foochow, China on February 18, 1929 and came to the U.S. in 1954. He received a BS degree from the National Taiwan University, and an MS and a Dr Eng Sc. Degrees From the New York University.More...
