Welcome to Your New Publication!
by Marco Liserre
I am very glad to introduce you to this new IEEE publication: IEEE Industrial
Electronics Magazine. Its identity is in the scope of the IEEE Industrial
Electronics Society (IES) that it represents: theory and applications of electronics,
controls, communications, instrumentation, and computational intelligence to
industrial and manufacturing systems and processes.
The Editorial Board of this new magazine is comprised of IEEE Transactions on
Industrial Electronics and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics editors
and past editors, whose experience will guide me, as well as by a group of emerging
researchers willing to make this new publication a flagship publication for
the IES. In fact, this magazine is a service for IES members, who receive it
as part of their Society subscription, and a contribution, through the IEEE
online library, to the industrial electronics scientific community.
To fulfill these ambitious goals, it is indispensable to identify not only the
scope of this magazine but also the way its content is offered to the reader.
While IEEE transactions are indispensable for a deep study on a certain topic
of interest, this magazine should offer tutorial surveys for nonspecialists
and effective glances at new ideas in industrial electronics and to the international
scenario where ideas originate.
Overview articles are the main feature of this publication. Key insights of
theoretical advancements based on a well-defined background are offered in the
column "Past & Present." Inventions and patents to enhance industry,
environment, and bottom line are the main subject of "From Mind to Market."
"My View" closes the magazine with a glance at the emerging trends
in industrial electronics international community. All of these articles are
peer reviewed and respect the IEEE standard. The features of the magazine are
reviewed by three to five international reviewers, and the articles published
in the columns also pass a short peer-review process. This is not only a way
to select the best contributions but also to make the articles accessible to
a vast audience.
The Editorial Board will guarantee the quality and accessibility of the technical
content while preserving the informative appeal of the Magazine with Society,
Chapter, educational, and products news. Of course ideas, contributions, and
all the possible collaboration are welcome.
About Your Editor-in-Chief

from the Polytechnic of Bari in 1998 and 2002, respectively. Since January 2004,
he has been an assistant professor with the same university and teaches courses
in power electronics, industrial electronics, and electrical machines. His research
interests are focused on industrial electronics applications to distributed
power generation systems based on renewable energies. He has coauthored over
100 technical papers and three chapters of a book. He is member of the IEEE
Industrial Electronics, IEEE Power Electronics, and IEEE Industry Applications
Societies. He has served as a reviewer both for conferences and journals. Within
the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, he has been active with student activities,
as an AdCom member, as editor of the newsletter, and with Region 8 membership
activities. He has been involved in conferences organization in different capacities.
He is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.
